A spring morning

You know, the sparrow may be the most ubiquitous of birds around here. Common. And yet each year when I peer out the kitchen window and see another mama sparrow nesting, I still get a little thrill. For a few days, she looks back at me suspiciously, but eventually comes to accept that I am nothing but a harmless voyeur. She peeks at me as she rests atop her eggs, warming her unhatched young. And I peek at her. And smile.
